Mark your calendars for Tuesday, December 2, 2025, when The Benson proudly presents its 54th Annual Gingerbread Unveiling. The celebration begins at 5 p.m. with festive activities throughout the hotel’s grand lobby, followed by the highly anticipated unveiling at 6 p.m.
Each year, this cherished event transforms The Benson into a wonderland of holiday magic — and this year promises to be truly unforgettable. Guests of all ages are invited to enjoy live music, children’s activities, a hot chocolate station, and a surprise visit from Santa, all surrounded by the sights, sounds, and scents of the season.
While this year’s gingerbread creation remains a carefully guarded secret, whispers from the kitchen suggest a theme filled with heart, courage, and a touch of magic. Whatever it may be, you can expect another breathtaking display that captures the imagination and spirit of the holidays.
A Tradition of Artistry and Imagination
The holiday masterpiece is once again the creation of Executive Chef David Diffendorfer, who has been delighting guests for over 20 years with his intricate, larger-than-life gingerbread designs. Chef Diffendorfer’s creations have become synonymous with Portland’s holiday season — combining culinary artistry, architectural precision, and a dash of wonder that keeps guests coming back year after year.
“The Gingerbread Unveiling has been a cherished tradition at The Benson for over five decades,” says Ryan Kunzer, General Manager. “Each year, Chef Diffendorfer and his team create something magical that brings the community together in the spirit of the season.”

The Benson is also proud to once again partner with the FOX 12 Les Schwab Tire Centers Toy Drive, helping bring holiday cheer to local children and families in need. Guests attending the event are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate and share in the spirit of giving.
