The Benson Portland, Curio Collection by Hilton, invites the public back once again for a live unveiling of the 2023 Gingerbread Masterpiece, a 52-year beloved holiday tradition.
The architectural feat promises only one hint to this year’s theme: “a famous example of romanticism, this beautiful sight inspired one dreamer and creator to capture the imaginations of millions around the world.”
The annual unveiling will take place on Wednesday evening, November 29th beginning at 6:00pm in The Benson’s grand lobby, which features new, contemporary yet classic furniture that was carefully curated as part of The Benson’s recent multimillion-dollar renovation. A timeless classic, The Benson features original Italian marble floors, Austrian crystal chandeliers, and the largest collection of Circassian walnut within one building.
Join us for holiday music, children’s crafts, cookies, beverages and a special appearance by Santa. It is free and open to the public.
This year’s display will be designed and built by accomplished architect and professional Pastry Chef David Diffendorfer, who has been revered as the culinary mastermind behind The Benson Portland’s renowned annual Gingerbread Display for three decades. His past work includes such creations as Château Loire, Saint Vitus Cathedral and his first American castle, Biltmore House. These majestic creations are made entirely of confectionary delights, with over 150 pounds of house made gingerbread, 50 pounds of marzipan, 20 pounds of chocolate, ten pounds of Rice Krispies treats, and buckets of royal icing. Toy donations can be dropped off at The Benson’s hotel lobby through December 15.
